Bill & Tom

Bill tells me he has come back to write a book with a Dr. Abdul Jibril who is based in Cairo and due the current problems over there Bill can not visit him directly so they are having to speak to one another via the internet. He is however happy to help me with anything that may crop with regard to this new case. I have passed him all the information collected so far, if you want to bounce ideas off him he will not mind you sending him emails.

I sent Louise off to chat up the Coroner to find out the details of Kat's death, that was this morning. I got a text from her about an hour ago saying that she has a date with a nice old man.

Tom picked me up just after two in the afternoon, Kat's house is in East Grinstead about a two hour journey from the office. Tom played Blues music all the way there and back and barely said a word.

He was a little more talkative when we got to the house, apparently Joseph Kat was somewhat estranged from the main part of the Kat family, the rest of the family were fishermen in Norfolk. Tom has barely spoken to his brother since Joseph had left home when he was eighteen. Although Joseph did send a letter to Tom twice a year.

Apparently Joseph have had various jobs over the years with highs and lows. For instance he has been a rocket Scientist for the MOD briefly but he has also been a croupier for a casino in Brighton. Tom says he is technically brilliant but nobody ever seemed to take him seriously regarding his various ideas.

Joseph was living in a first floor maisonette in what could be best described as the cheaper part of town.

According to Tom the downstairs neighbours heard two gun shots who immediately called the police. They also heard what sounded like two people on the stairs, then the front door slamming. Looking through their curtains they saw two men jumping into a black van and drive off. His body was found under a man-size chicken apparently a chicken-a-gram sent by the his wife not sure what that is all about, I intend to interview the wife another day. The bodies were found on the landing outside Joseph's front door, obviously the Man-Chicken was collateral damage wrong place wrong time.

Walking into the flat I was hit by the smell and had a brief flashback to my childhood and my father. The smell was pipe smoke. To the unpractised eye the flat looked to be in complete disarray however if you looked closely you could see a resemblance of order. Ash trays everywhere mostly full. It was while I searching through the chaos that I had another flashback this one much more painful of Bob lying dead. I pushed the image out of my head and tried to concentrate on the matters at hand.

I realised I was too close to the subject matter so I took a step back and just gazed round the flat. No fridge in evidence, a cooker and a microwave but no fridge. There was a space for one no marks on the floor though and then my eye fell upon something partially covered by fallen magazine on electronics. Book of matches and you have guess it, it is from the Ripper club. The man upstairs does not appear to like me very much.

  1. The Ripped club again?

Sheesh, from what you told us that place is bad news. But it implies a possible link between the incident with your fridge and the Mr. Kat case, doesn't it? Not a strong link, but the Ripper Club keeps coming up. Weird.

Maybe a cabel of fridge thieves?
